Who needs therapy?
Therapy is a means of changing something in your life you have not been able to change yourself. Most of us suffer chapters of depression, stress, grief, relationship challenges, and more at some point. Counseling exists to help navigate these challenges and to make meaningful change in your life.
What happens in counseling?
Typically, you meet on a regular basis for a consistent length of time. This may change when severe issues arise that require additional support. Counseling is a collaboration between the client and the counselor that hinges on open communication. Counselors can offer perspective in examining thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that have negative impacts and help identify strategic goals to improve wellbeing, relationships, coping skills and behavioral change. Personal growth is the core of counseling.
What types of therapy do you use?
We use a variety of therapy models including psychodynamic therapy, family systems therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness based cognitive therapy.

How do I get started?
Your initial contact with Hunter will involve a few questions about why you are seeking counseling and will help determine whether you are a good fit for each other.
With the scheduling of your initial appointment, you will be asked to complete intake forms, which will be sent to you electronically.
What should I look for in a counselor?
A good fit is everything. Being comfortable is key to achieving growth together through these conversations. It may take meeting with a few different counselors before finding the right fit.
Do you accept insurance?
We do not accept insurance but can sign forms you complete to seek reimbursement from your insurer. Please contact your insurance provider to determine out-of-network benefits and claims processes.
How long are therapy sessions?
Therapy sessions can last from 30 to 90 minutes. All initial therapy sessions are 90 minutes so we are able to cover a lot of ground. Weekly and biweekly therapy sessions are typically 45 to 60 minutes in duration.
How do I set up an appointment?
To schedule an appointment, please call us at (404) 386-4150. You can also click on any of the Email Us buttons throughout the site.
Do you meet with clients remotely?
We use Zoom for video counseling sessions. Please review the platform requirements here to understand if this is a good fit for you.
How long do I have to wait for an appointment?
We aim to schedule your initial appointment within 1-2 weeks of the phone consultation. We will work to establish your appointment in the timeliest manner possible, usually within one or two weeks from the time of your request.
What if I need to reschedule or cancel an appointment?
If you need to reschedule or cancel an appointment, please do so no less than 24 hours prior to the appointment. There is a cancellation fee required for missed appointments and this fee is required prior to your next scheduled appointment.

Is everything confidential?
The code of ethics for professional counselors requires them to protect the confidentiality of their communication with clients within boundaries of the client/counselor relationship. The law in the State of Georgia provides the following exceptions to confidentiality, but you will be informed before confidential information is revealed whenever possible:
- If the counselor has knowledge of abuse of a child, elder, or a person with a disability.
- If the counselor has knowledge of intent to harm himself/herself or others.
- If the counselor receives a court order to the contrary.
How long will you keep my records on file?
We follow the state and national guidelines for retaining confidential records. All such records are required to be kept on file for seven years after your last session. If you are a minor, your records will be kept for seven years after you reach the age of 18. After that seven years, your records will be destroyed.
